Luke 11:1-4

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples."

He said to them, "When you pray, say:

'Father,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.
And lead us not into temptation.'

What is the Apostles Creed?

Most Scholars believe the creed was written in the second century. It is one of the earliest statements of the Christian faith.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:

Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;

He descended into hell.

The third day He arose again from the dead;

He ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost;
the holy catholic church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting.

Amen.

3. Why should I follow Jesus, can't I just say I believe in him?

Questions for January 16th

Why do we use a bunny to celebrate Easter?

The Easter bunny has its origin in pre-Christian fertility folklore. The hare and the rabbit were the most fertile animals known, thus they served as symbols of the new life during the Spring season.

The bunny as an Easter symbol can be traced to German writings from the 1500s. The first edible Easter bunnies were made in Germany during the early 1800s.

The Easter bunny was introduced to American folklore by the German settlers who arrived in Pennsylvania during the 1700s.

The arrival of the "Oschter Haws" was considered "childhood's greatest pleasure" next to a visit from Christ-Kindel on Christmas Eve. The children believed that if they were good the "Oschter Haws" would lay a nest of colored eggs.

The children would build their nest in a secluded place in the home, the barn or the garden. Boys would use their caps and girls their bonnets to make the nests . The use of elaborate Easter baskets would come later as the tradition of the Easter bunny spread through out the country.

Questions from January 9th

Here are some brief answers from your questions on January 9th. If want more information please don't hesitate to ask.

Why did they put two different points of view in the Bible?

There is the Old Testament which tells the story of God and Jewish people. Which takes place 100's of years before Jesus Christ is born. Why is this important? Jesus was Jewish. This is Jesus history and family tree.

The New Testament introduces us to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

These two books together give us the Bible.

How do we find out how many people wrote the Bible or little details like that?

Here's a link to a great website that answer many of these questions http://www.4truth.net/

Why would non-believers question the Bible?

Blaise Pascal (1623-1662) Was a French Mathematician, Physicist, inventor, writer, and Christian Philosopher. He once said, "Thus people have an “empty”-ness inside which most try to “fill with everything around.” But only God will exactly fit."

Non-believers are looking for answers or they are looking for reasons not to believe. For some it is easier to criticize the Christian faith rather than examine the faith for themselves.

Do Scientist believe in God and the Bible?

Here is another link to some famous scientist who believed in God. Not all of them are Christians, but they all believed in a higher power. http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/sciencefaith.html

Michael Behe, professor of Biochemistry at Leheigh University wrote a book called Darwin's Black Box. Behe is a Christian scientist who tackles many of Darwin's theories on evolution.

How did God start? How was he just there?

We know there was a beginning to our World. Genesis 1:1 tells us, "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." Scientist who understand the Law of Thermodynamics can explain how this law shows there was a definite beginning to our world.

We know God existed before our world was created, but I we cannot answer where God came from or how God started.

Should we really do everything the Bible tells us?

I hope this link sheds a little light on your question.

What is Mosaic Law? The laws (beginning with the Ten Commandments) that God gave to the Israelites through Moses; it includes many rules of religious observance given in the first five books of the Old Testament

The Bible was never designed to be a rule book. Instead we should reap the wisdom imparted in the Bible. The authors of the Bible are seeking to encourage the reader to lead a Godly, Christ centered life.

Luke 10:25-37

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”

27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”

28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

Most importantly we are provided grace through Jesus Christ. Christ will never give up on us, even when we give up on Christ.

What does God think about war?
